Senior Network Administrator 

Location: Renton, Washington

Duration: 6 Months CTH

 

Job Description:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or related field or two (2) years of college and two (2) years of accredited technical training
  2. Two industry standard certifications required - A+/Net +/Security+ or comparable
  3. Minimum ten years (10) years of experience in the current or similar environment
  4. Demonstrated ability to install and troubleshoot voice and data networks and related equipment
  5. Experience with the following technologies: WAN, LAN, router management, firewall technologies, data switching, TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, IPSEC, VoIP, digital and analog communications, copper and fiber cabling, T1 / DS1, ISDN and voice mail
  6. Firm understanding of the OSI model
  7. Demonstrated understanding of IP numbering schemes and subnetting
  8. Demonstrated continued professional development
  9. Experience with wired and wireless infrastructure
  10. Demonstrated knowledge of network and communications monitoring tools and utilities
  11. Experience with Avaya phone system, AVST voice mail, Brocade switches, Cisco switches and Cisco Unified Call Manager preferred

SKILLS:

  1. Good troubleshooting skills to determine cause and take appropriate action to correct errors

  2. Ability to configure and install equipment to meet specifications

  3. Ability to work independently and in teams with good problem solving, communication, and organizational skills. Diligent, results-oriented work habits

  4. Ability to set priorities, produce accurate work, and meet deadlines; ability to function in a setting with a wide variety of duties and numerous interruptions

  5. Ability to work with a wide variety of technical and non-technical people

  6. Successful experience as Project team member and small project lead

UNIQUE PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS, ENVIRONMENT, AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Requires the ability to move network and telephone equipment weighing up to 50 lbs

  2. Requires prolonged standing, ladder work, working around and under furniture and equipment, working in small areas above and below the floor and within walls

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

B.  Unique Job Functions:

  1. Maintain voice and data network end user equipment

  2. Promptly notify Manager of problems, unexpected tasks and missed targets

  3. Actively pursue training and knowledge of new systems, and complete training programs as required

  4. Maintain the security of the Data Center systems and information, per VMC and departmental Information Privacy policies

  5. Support Manager in controlling expenses; provide input for budgeting departmental needs

  6. Provide after-hours support as necessary

  7. Participate in on-call rotation as scheduled

  8. Perform routine maintenance and support of LAN Switches and Routers

  9. Use network monitoring tools to evaluate performance, troubleshoot issues, monitor throughput and evaluate configurations

  10. Day to Day trouble-shooting of phone system, LAN, and WAN

  11. Maintain cabling infrastructure

  12. Work effectively with vendors and contractors to deploy and maintain network infrastructure

  13. Maintain Wireless AP's, wireless phones and documentation

  14. Maintain network and telephony related documentation and associated database for disaster recovery as necessary

  15. Provide local and remote end user support

  16. Participate on a team to support network and communications projects

  17. Review, understand and provide technical briefings of vendor manuals and documents

C.  Unique Senior Network Administrator responsibilities:

  • Deploy, maintain and support wiring closet switches, power distribution units and uninterruptable power supplies
  • Deploy, maintain and support datacenter top-of-rack and core equipment
  • Deploy, maintain and support dynamic and static routing environment
  • Plan and manage major network downtimes
  • Troubleshoot and lead recovery effort for major network outages
  • Perform software / firmware upgrades for network and telephony equipment
  • Backup and restore network and telephony equipment
  • Maintain TCP/IP, public DNS, and IP address documentation
  • Design, upgrade, install network solutions for closet, aggregation, core and clinic needs
  • Audit configurations, institute configuration standards, maintain equipment life cycles
  • Identify and implement process improvements for efficiency and greater stability
  • Expert with troubleshooting at the packet level using tools such as Wireshark
  • Act as project lead for small projects

This role may require on-location work with WWT customers. Some customers may require WWT employees and contractors coming on-site to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and/or to receive frequent negative COVID-19 testing.
