Server Administrator Senior
Administers, manages and evaluates all aspects of the server/system architecture to ensure optimal network reliability, security, data integrity and inter-operability with third party systems and applications.
Essential Duties:
Manages and oversees performance of all file servers and network performance within W. P. Carey School to ensure adherence with established standards and policies; works closely with University Technology Office to identify, evaluate and resolve network and infrastructure issues  Evaluates and integrates new technology, methodologies and data administration protocols, standards and security measures consistent with overall objectives of the School Plans future growth of the School's infrastructure through projecting and forecasting capacity requirements based on analysis of current performance levels and ability to meet demands Maintains and reviews connectivity, monitors performance of servers, network and database integrity; coordinates diagnostic testing to correct performance problems  Coordinates and performs testing of system enhancements and patches; performs test scripts and system configuration to ensure results achieve desired outcomes throughout all effected systems. Participates in feasibility studies of new and/or enhancements to current infrastructure solutions to provide recommendations and analysis of anticipated outcomes Monitors disk space and system usage; analyzes rate of growth to available equipment; re-allocates disk space to maximize usage Evaluates infrastructure and hardware platforms to determine effectiveness and compatibility with established systems to support and further needs, plans and objectives of the School Remains abreast of technology directions, initiatives and trends within scope of expertise to provide ideas, guidance and recommendations Documentation of system architecture and configuration.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong understanding of server administration concepts, principles, practices and methods and best practices; security/permission standards.
All of the Server Administrators Skills and Web site administration
Maintains MCSE certification (or RHCE for Linux)
Can troubleshoot routers/switches/firewall connectivity issues
Can setup and administer server OS and hardware
Creates documentation on how to setup server per project specifications
Uses advanced troubleshooting technology to resolve issues
Working Environment:
Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking. Frequent physical demands may include working in cramped and close surroundings subject to exposure to electrical connections. Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computer; bending, stooping, reaching, lifting and pushing objects of varying weights up to 50 pounds. Ability to clearly communicate verbally in English, read, write, see, and hear to perform essential duties. Regular review of completed tasks.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or closely related field AND six (4) years experience in server/network administration; virtual network; server security administration, OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications:
A minimum of 4 years of Operations experience with:
  • Routing/switching/firewall connectivity
  • Server reporting tools
  • 4 years of experience working with server administration concepts, principles, best practices
and methods, and security/permission standards
  • Maintains RHCE/MCSE certification
  • Ability to troubleshoot routers/switches/firewall connectivity issues
  • Ability to setup/administer/backup/restore server OS and tools/services and creates documentation
